DBI, as a consultant to URS, provided space planning and interior design services for the entire consulate compound in Mumbai. The new compound is based on the standard embassy design prototype but is also heavily influenced by its specific program, climate, location and culture. The consulate consists of five purpose-driven structures organized within a secure site, which is layered into zones of increasing privacy from east to west. The principal facility is the New Office Building, which contains the Consul General’s offices, other consulate related administrative units, and reception and meeting areas.
