On Thursday, May 5, DBI Architects was presented the MD/DC NAIOP Award of Excellence in the Interiors Over 25,000 SF Category for the design of BAE Systems in Rockville, Maryland.
The four main goals for BAE Systems’ new facility were to 1) relocate to a more efficient space, 2) set standards for space layouts and furniture, 3) address quality-of-work/life improvements, and 4) attract and retain employees. DBI delivered a space for BAE that fulfilled all four objectives.
This project highlights DBI’s ability to employ BIM (Building Information Modeling) throughout the entire design process. Developing a BIM Model in the early programming stages and throughout the Design Development phase created the opportunity for BAE Systems to be fully engaged in exploring the design possibilities of their space. Also noteworthy, is that BAE Systems Facilities Management division was intimately involved throughout all stages of the project, which allowed the group to fully understand the features and benefits of managing and maintaining their space as the model evolves and collects information of all system components.
This project received LEED® Silver certification, which was also of great importance to the client.
DBI is proud of this great achievement, and would like to thank all of the key team members who helped to make it possible, including CRESA Partners, Davis Construction, KTA Group, Acuity and, of course, BAE Systems.
