Congratulations are in order for DBI Director of Architecture Alan L. Hansen, FAIA on recently receiving AIA Northern Virginia’s Honor Award for Outstanding Achievement. The Chapter bestowed this honor on Alan in recognition of his enduring commitment to the work of the Loudoun County Design Cabinet, which he formed in 2002 in an effort to promote high-quality, environmentally sustainable, and culturally respectful architectural and landscape design in one of the fastest-growing communities in not only Virginia—but also our Nation. Alan would like to share this accolade with the members of the Cabinet, who have also contributed countless hours and invaluable effort to the group’s projects. Members include planners, architects, landscape architects, and engineers who, in volunteer collaboration, resolve community design challenges. Alan, embracing the AIA’s national Citizen Architect initiative to promote design excellence through collaboration with community decision makers, is thrilled that the Cabinet has become “an indispensable design resource” in Loudoun County, and he encourages architects in other communities to facilitate similar design movements.
